As an eighth grader at Lady Bird Johnson Middle School, Alan Varghese decided to jumpstart his college career by applying to Singley Collegiate Academy. Students who are accepted have various opportunities awaiting them, including attending classes on a college campus (Dallas College North Lake), saving up to $50,000 in college tuition and the chance to earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree.

“Two of the main reasons I applied were to decrease the financial stress on my parents and to get a headstart on college courses,” says Varghese.

Now a sophomore, Varghese is preparing for life after graduation by staying involved on campus through the newly founded Early College Leadership Club and excelling in his classes. He says his favorite subject is science, specifically biology, because these courses are helping him prepare for a career in the medical field.

“Alan exemplifies what an early college high school student is,” says Singley Collegiate Academy Counselor Christina Guzman. “He’s diligent and always puts forth his best effort with a future-goal mindset.”

For current eighth graders interested in applying to Singley Collegiate Academy, Varghese says to go for it.

“Not only will you help your family (financially) but you’ll also be doing something great for yourself and your future,” he adds.

After college, Varghese plans to attend a four-year university to major in biology and then continue to medical school.
