Congratulations to the six cross country runners from Nimitz High School who signed letters of intent on November 20 to take their talents to the University of North Texas at Dallas.
- Ismar Alvarez ran cross country for two seasons. He also runs track and has played soccer at Nimitz. He will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where he plans to study business with an emphasis on finance. After college, he plans on being a financial advisor.
- Chelsea Arana ran cross country for three seasons. She also runs track and is a section leader in the Nimitz band program. She will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where she plans to get a degree in elementary education with hopes of becoming an elementary school teacher.
- Brian Arellano ran cross country for two seasons and also runs track. He will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where he plans to earn a degree in biology before going to nursing school.
- Kenric Fuentes, who is a student at Barbara Cardwell Career Prep but competes on Nimitz teams, ran cross country for one season. He also runs track and has played football at Nimitz. He will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where he plans to study business with an emphasis inentrepreneurship. After college, he plans on owning his own business.
- Candy Garay ran cross country for two seasons and also runs track at Nimitz. She will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where she plans to study hospitality management.
- Edwin Ruiz ran cross country all four seasons at Nimitz. He also runs track and has played soccer at Nimitz. He will be a first-generation college student at UNT Dallas, where he plans on getting a degree in public health and a minor in biology. After college, he plans on pursuing a career in the veterinary industry.
“I am very proud of these six individuals who worked hard to put themselves in a position to accept an athletic scholarship for UNT Dallas,” says Chris Lowry, Nimitz head cross country coach. “I am very lucky to be their high school coach, and I feel that Coach Royal is going to be lucky to be their college coach.”
