Irving ISD is proud to announce that David Munoz has been named athletic coordinator and head football coach at Irving High School. Munoz, who brings more than 15 years of coaching experience, begins his new role on May 25.
“I am thrilled to be named the new head football coach and athletic coordinator at Irving High,” says Munoz. “I am excited to build upon the success at Irving. I look forward to meeting everyone on campus and in the community, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Munoz has most recently served as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Haltom High School in Birdville ISD, where his football team won district, area, and regional titles in 2018-2019. He also served as a physical education and health department head and assistant track coach.
From 2011 to 2013, he was the special teams coordinator, linebacker coach and varsity assistant baseball coach at South Hills High School in Fort Worth ISD. Prior to that, he served as defensive coordinator and head baseball coach at North Side High School, also in Fort Worth ISD, from 2006 to 2011.
Among his athletic team’s achievements are also academic-focused accomplishments such as implementing a mandatory study hall that reduced failures by an average of 25% each year and leading a character development program for his student-athletes.
“We are so excited to welcome Coach Munoz to Team Irving,” says Superintendent of Schools Magda Hernandez. “We are confident in his capabilities to help students succeed both in the classroom, on the field and in their futures. We look forward to great success under his leadership as we continue our quest to become the best district in the nation.”
Munoz earned a master’s degree from Grand Canyon University in 2019 and a Bachelor of Science from Sul Ross State University, where he played football from 2001 to 2005, was a three-year starter and team captain.
Munoz replaces Eric De Los Santos, who accepted a position outside of the district.
