Nimitz High School choir director Erin Scalisi has been named a semi-finalist for the 2022 Music Educator Award. This award recognizes educators across the nation who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education.
For Scalisi, it is a high honor to be recognized for her passion for music education.
“Being a quarter-finalist is an amazing experience and is an honor. It is humbling to be in a national spotlight and recognized as an innovator and leader,” says Scalisi. “I am most honored to serve South Irving and the parents, students and faculty of Nimitz High School.”
Of the thousands of nominated educators, Scalisi is one of only 219 teachers from over 200 cities to be selected as a quarterfinalist. Scalisi is also part of a special pool of applicants known as legacy applicants, who were named as a quarterfinalist in years past. Scalisi is also only one of 25 quarterfinalists from Texas, and the only high school choir director in the entire quarterfinalist pool.
For Nimitz High School Principal Francisco Miranda, this award highlights the way Scalisi has changed the game for her students and the entire Nimitz community.
“She has brought our choir to a higher level, both in performance and expectations,” says Miranda. “We’re extremely proud and can’t wait to see the great things that the future brings.”
