Irving ISD will be well-represented at the regional cross country later this month. The Irving High School boys’ team and five individuals from MacArthur advanced after medaling at the District 7-6A meet, held Tuesday morning at The Buff in Haltom City.
The Irving boys’ team finished second overall. Members of the team are seniors Brayam Cardenas, Marco Duran and Anthony Hernandez; juniors Marcos Puentes and Alfonso Samaniego; sophomore Fernando Delgado; and freshman Jose Cardenas. This is the first Irving High cross country team to advance to regionals in over 20 years and only the second in school history. Individual medalists were Samaniego (fifth place) and Hernandez (eighth place).
Five MacArthur runners also stamped their ticket to regionals. In the boys’ race, senior Logan Nasky won the bronze while his teammates seniors Scott Davis and Joseph Caroul earned seventh and ninth places, respectively. In the girls’ race, senior Laura Marquez placed fourth, earning a second trip to regionals, while freshman Faith Farrar finished just two spots behind at 6th.
The regional meet will be held October 25 in Lubbock.
