Irving ISD is proud to announce that Singley Collegiate Academy’s Katy Mai Nguyen is among 16,000 students nationwide who have earned the honor of being named a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
“I’m honored to be named a National Merit Semifinalist. This will be a great opportunity for me to network with other Semifinalists, be in touch with universities for scholarships and company sponsors. I feel that my effort has paid off, and I would like to use this experience to help other students prepare for the PSAT and SAT,” she says.
Nguyen is a star pupil whose campus involvements include the Collegiate Leadership Club (President), Asian Culture Committee (Vice President), Interact (Vice President), National Honor Society (Secretary), HOSA – Future Health Professionals, Destination Imagination and Student Council. After graduation, Nguyen plans to attend Rice University or the University of Texas at Austin to study Software Engineering. She also plans to continue volunteering in the community and serve as a mentor for high school students.
As a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, Nguyen has the opportunity to become one of the 7,600 finalists who will take home scholarships worth a combined $28 million. Finalists will be announced beginning in March.
Best of luck, Katy!
