Irving ISD seniors Alizay Escamilla and Angel Siguenza are two of only 500 students selected nationwide for the prestigious Dell Scholarship, worth $20,000. In addition to the scholarship, each recipient will receive a laptop and funding for books through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.
The Dell Scholars program goes beyond financial assistance. Through the program, scholars gain access to a support network including regular check-ins with academic advisors, confidential counseling services and discounted legal, financial and personal services to support them throughout their college journey.
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be high school seniors enrolled in an approved college readiness program, qualify for a Pell Grant, have a minimum GPA of 2.4 and plan to enroll full-time at an accredited college or university immediately after high school. Strong applicants must also showcase qualities such as determination, perseverance and a strong sense of purpose in achieving their academic and career goals.
Learn more about Alizay and Angel below:
Alizay Escamilla, Singley Collegiate Academy
Singley Collegiate Academy’s Alizay Escamilla is a highly engaged and driven student, dedicating her time to multiple organizations that reflect her diverse interests. Over the years, Escamilla has been involved in the National Honor Society, Asian Culture Committee, Singley Spirit Crew and Math League. Her hard work and dedication have led her to an exciting new chapter in her educational journey as a newly-named Dell Scholar – an honor she describes as a dream come true.
“I am very happy that I was chosen as a Dell Scholar,” says Escamilla. “I’m beyond grateful to the Micheal and Susan Dell Foundation for contributing to my future education and helping me pursue my dream career.”
Escamilla plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington and major in nursing.
Angel Siguenza, Irving High School
Angel Siguenza can now add Dell Scholar to his list of achievements. During his time at Irving High School, he has been heavily involved on campus – both academically and athletically. He’s co-captain of the varsity tennis team, an accomplishment he achieved in just one year, a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program. Thanks to the Dell Scholarship, Siguenza will be able to continue his education and pursuit of a future in the medical field.
“I’m so honored and grateful for the Dell Scholarship,” he says. “I feel special that they selected me, and I’m now part of an elite family of scholars.”
Although he’s undecided on which college to attend, Siguenza plans on earning his bachelor’s degree in pre-med before pursuing medical school to achieve his dream of becoming an anesthesiologist.
Congratulations to both scholars!
