As many are aware, the 89th Texas Legislature’s recent passage of House Bill 2 allocated $8.5 billion in new funding to public education, including $4.2 billion specifically for teacher and staff pay raises. This legislation represented a historic commitment to educator compensation. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has since released detailed guidance on how these funds would be distributed to districts.
Thanks to Superintendent Hernandez’s continued focus on teacher recruitment and retention, the Board of Trustees generously approved updates to the 2025-2026 salary schedule at tonight’s Board meeting. The updates specifically reflect changes to the pay ranges for teacher salaries only for the 2025-2026 contract year. The update includes the HB2 Teacher Retention Allotment adjustments for teachers meeting the definition of “classroom teacher” per Texas Education Code §5.001, and would specifically include the following:
- Teachers who have three (3) to four (4) years of experience will receive a $2,500 raise.
- Teachers who have five (5) or more years of experience will receive a $5,000 raise.
- Teachers not meeting the TEC definition of “classroom teacher” will not receive the HB2 Teacher Retention Allotment adjustment.
However, the Board of Trustees also approved an increase of $1,000 in compensation for teachers who have zero (0) to two (2) years of experience so that our newest teachers are still recognized for their ongoing commitment to service to the students of our district.
The Irving ISD administration continues to closely work with the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) planning team from TEA to continue to thoroughly prepare for the implementation of TEA’s grant-funded Strategic Compensation initiative over the next several years. This initiative will significantly impact the district’s compensation model for high-performing educators as a part of the broader competitive strategy for staff recruitment and retention.
Irving ISD remains committed to advocating for competitive compensation for all of our educators, and will continue to provide updates for Board consideration and approval as new information becomes available throughout the year for Texas Strategic Compensation and enhanced TIA districts.
