This week, October 20-24, Irving ISD joins districts across the nation in recognizing National School Bus Safety Week, a time to remind students, families and drivers about the importance of staying safe in and around school buses.

To help keep students safe, Irving ISD encourages families to review key safety tips:

  • Arrive 10 minutes early to the bus stop.
  • Stay five giant steps (10 feet) away from the road until the bus stops completely.
  • Wait until no cars are coming from either direction before crossing the street.
  • Always use handrails when getting on and off the bus.
  • Never walk behind the school bus.

Students are also reminded to buckle up, as Texas Education Code 34.013 requires all students to wear a seatbelt on the bus. Additionally, children should avoid distractions such as shouting or playing near the bus to ensure the driver can remain alert to road conditions.

By working together, we can make sure every student gets to and from school safely, ready to learn and succeed.
