MacArthur High School senior Aubrey Brown was among 15,000 students from across the country to advance to National Merit Finalist standing.
National Merit scholarships are awarded to students based on their academic, student involvement and leadership record; school’s curriculum and grading system; PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score; written recommendation from high school administration; and an essay written by the Finalist. Winners are notified of their selection beginning in March, continuing to mid-June.
“When I first heard that I was a Finalist, I felt excited and relieved,” says Brown. “I was nervous waiting for the announcement to come out.”
Getting to this point was a group effort, and Brown has many people she’d like to thank including her English teacher Danielle Phalon, the MacArthur administration team and her parents for their support throughout this process.
Brown has plans to attend Southern Methodist University to play women’s soccer and pursue a degree in political science.
Good luck, Aubrey!
