At its regularly scheduled meeting on January 20, the Irving ISD Board of Trustees approved student and teacher calendars for both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years.
While calendars are typically approved one year at a time, district administration presented two years of calendars to support long-term planning for families, staff and the community. The calendars were developed with input from campus leaders, district departments and operational teams, followed by a public and staff feedback process.
The final calendars reflect consistent feedback related to start and end dates, instructional flow, professional learning time and overall balance across the school year.
2026-2027 School Calendar Highlights
- First Day of School: August 11, 2026
- Fall Break: October 9 – 12, 2026 (plus October 13 student holiday)
- Thanksgiving Break: November 23 – 27, 2026
- Christmas Break: December 21, 2026 – January 1, 2027 (plus January 4 and 5 student holidays)
- Spring Break: March 15 – 19, 2027
- Last Day of School: May 27, 2027
- School Year Ends Before Memorial Day
2027-2028 School Calendar Highlights

- Thanksgiving Break: November 22 – 26, 2027

- School Year Ends Before Memorial Day
Both calendars maintain required instructional minutes, include protected professional learning and campus preparation days, and prioritize consistency in the academic year structure based on stakeholder feedback.
