To begin School Board Appreciation month, Irving ISD is honoring Board President A.D. Jenkins. Trustee Jenkins is serving his third term on the board and was elected president last May.

For many years, Trustee Jenkins has been an active volunteer for the district and at many schools, including all of the district’s high schools. To further his involvement, Jenkins has made it a priority to visit as many schools as possible. This school year, he has read to kindergarteners, practiced with the Nimitz football team, volunteered for lunch duty and talked with JROTC students about leadership. It’s been a great experience for both Jenkins and the schools.

He has also been honored with the PTA Life Membership Awards and is a recipient of the NAACP Service Award for his commitment to the community. As a strong advocate of Irving ISD’s athletic programs, Jenkins has provided support to Irving ISD coaches and players for numerous years.

A native of Waterproof, La., Jenkins came to Irving in 1987 and graduated from DeVry University two years later with a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems. He currently works as an account executive for Cima Solutions Group.

He is married to wife Sherrie and is the father of three boys – Tevyn, Cameron, and Jared – all who attended Irving ISD schools. Jenkins also has been a father figure to many more students and is the CEO/Founder of the B.I.G. D.O.G.S. Youth Organization.
