Last evening, the Irving ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a one-time retention and incentive payment for returning staff members in the total amount of $2,000. In response to the hardships and challenges brought by the COVID-19 global pandemic, schools districts across the state are able to use ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Education Relief) funds to provide these types of payments to staff.
“I want to thank the Board for their support of this measure to compensate staff for the additional responsibilities shouldered due to COVID-19,” says Superintendent of Schools Magda Hernandez. “Most of all, I want to thank you, Team Irving, for your dedication to our students and for holding strong as we navigated unchartered waters. Your hard work and commitment to our students and the district did not go unnoticed.”
The retention and incentive payment will be issued as a separate check from the employee’s regular paycheck by August 31, 2021.
All returning full-time and part-time (monthly and bi-weekly) employees who remain employed by Irving ISD and are Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)eligible on or prior to June 30, 2021, are eligible for the retention and incentive payment. Employees must have signed a letter of assurance or contract for the 2021-2022 school year; be eligible for benefits (full-time or part-time); be TRS eligible; must work at least 20 hours per week; and must not have submitted notice of intent to separate from their employment to Irving ISD.
