Irving ISD was recently honored with the Leadership Team award from Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) for the south central region. This award is part of the VILS end of year awards, and recognizes district’s dedication to growing innovative leaders.
“Irving ISD was nominated for this award thanks to being an exemplar of leading many VILS opportunities,” says Vanessa Gutierrez Zurita, Director of Professional Learning, VILS Team.
The partnership between Irving ISD, Verizon and Digital Promise dates back to 2017 when five middle schools joined the innovative schools program. Irving ISD later became one of only two districts in the nation selected to participate in the first VILS high school program. Now, every middle and high school is an innovative learning school.
Thanks to the active partnership with VILS, Irving ISD students and staff are equipped with the digital skills needed to be innovative leaders, something that is at the heart of Irving ISD’s mission.
“Irving ISD intentionally grow leaders within their district that has helped spread VILS K-12,” says Gutierrez Zurita. “Leaders at all levels genuinely care for those they lead, and it shows up with any interaction had with Irving.”
