On Monday, the Texas Education Agency released accountability ratings for all state public school districts and campuses for the first time since the pandemic began. The ratings included A-C overall grades for districts and schools, which were measured in three categories: student achievement, school progress and “closing the gap,” which evaluates how goals are being achieved for certain groups of students, such as English learners, special education students and those who are economically disadvantaged.

Despite the academic challenges faced, Irving ISD maintained a B rating.

“I am so proud of the work of our teachers and campus staff in earning these ratings, and of course, our students for their performance,” says Irving ISD Superintendent of Schools Magda Hernandez. “There is no question that the last two years have been a challenge academically. But despite the obstacles, Irving ISD performed. I look forward to building upon this foundation of success to take our district to the next level.”

In addition, campuses that are rated Met Standard under regular Accountability Rules are also eligible for Distinction Designations. Fifteen Irving ISD campuses earned a combined total of 33 Distinction Designations for the 2021-2022 school year.

Leading the way were de Zavala Middle School and Singley Academy, who each earned five Distinctions! Irving High School and Travis Middle School followed closely behind with four Distinctions each. Earning three Distinctions was Houston Middle School, while Nimitz High School and Gilbert Elementary School each earned two.

The following schools earned one Distinction: Austin Middle School, Bowie Middle School, Brandenburg Elementary School, Davis Elementary School, Good Elementary School, Thomas Haley Elementary School, Stipes Elementary School and Townsell Elementary School.
