For Singley Academy senior Jacqueline Le, making the decision to apply and attend this Irving ISD school of choice was an easy one. Her older brother, now a computer engineer, attended the school first, which gave their family a chance to experience the many offerings available at Singley Academy. After that, her mother was sold and wanted the same for Jacqueline.
“I really liked the school and they offered a program I was interested in – the dental pathway,” she says.
Singley Academy offers robust programs in career and technical education to prepare students for success after high school. From culinary arts and health sciences to technology and public law, there’s a speciality to fit every student’s interest. Students accepted also have the opportunity to earn their associate’s degree. For Le, this was one of the major selling points.
“You get to focus on career and life skills in addition to earning your associate’s degree,” says Le. “The classes are also a lot more intimate, which provides more opportunities for one-on-one help from your teachers.”
Over the past four years, Le has been involved in a plethora of extracurricular activities on campus and says the social, academic and diverse student organizations are an added bonus to student life at Singley Academy. She’s currently president of the Interact Club, vice president of the student council and a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Le has a paid internship in correlation with the dental program and is in the process of earning her dental assistant certification along with her Associate of Science degree. She says she couldn’t have done it without the guidance of two teachers who have been instrumental in her education.
“Dr. Latonia Smith is adamant about keeping us on track, and Ms. Deanna Darr helped highlight my strengths and brought out the best in me as a student,” adds Le.
While Le is undecided about what college she’ll attend after graduation, she knows that she wants a career in business, tech or medicine.
“I really want to do something where I can help people and build relationships,” she says.
Le wishes to leave two pieces of advice for young readers.
“Communication is key, and always be mindful of others,” says Le. “Everyone has a silent battle they’re fighting, so always be kind and respectful.”
