Today is a special day. It’s School Lunch Hero Day. As we honor these heroes, we want to recognize one employee in particular that has gone above and beyond for students and staff.

Meet Rosie Castillo, cafeteria supervisor at Elliott Elementary and…drum roll, please…the winner of the Irving ISD School Lunch Superhero Award!

This special recognition is an annual award given to a standout Irving ISD employee nominated by campus administrators and staff.

How long has Castillo served in Irving ISD?

Castillo started working for the district in August 2012. All ten of those years have been in Food and Nutrition Services.

What does Elliott Elementary love most about Castillo?

Castillo is a team player, always dives right in to make sure everything is running smoothly despite any challenges. She is flexible, always puts students first, and always smiling.

Why was Castillo chosen as the School Superhero award? 

Castillo was nominated for her hard work, commitment, focus on students and leadership. She always going above and beyond despite any obstacles or challenges. Whether it’s been the pandemic, ice storms and other challenges faced throughout the year, Castillo never lost her smile, dedication and desire to provide hot, nutritious and delicious meals to the students at Elliott Elementary.

What does Castillo like most about her job? 

Castillo loves cooking for the students and interacting with them each day. The students put a smile on her face. Her favorite part of the job is watching students enjoy the food she and her team provide for them.
