Irving ISD athletic trainers teamed up with Irving Fire Department and doctors from Texas Scottish Rite Hospital and UT Southwestern to implement an emergency action plan and provide the best possible care for our student athletes and band members.
The training was held July 24 at Nimitz High School, and it centered on ensuring all Irving athletic staff and emergency responders are on the same page in the event a student athletes is injured.
Dr. Shane Miller, the Nimitz team doctor and a physician at UT Southwestern Medical Center, led the training, which included discussion on heat-related illness, spinal cord injuries, concussions and “stop the bleed.”
